The house fire on Norman Street gave the Soddy-Daisy several challenges.
The house was fully involved as the first Engine arrived.
While firefighters were getting ready for an interior attack on the fire others were starting to work on the fire from out side. As they did a supper heated can of food in the house blew the top sending the can like a bullet out of the house and across the yard striking the house next door. The can was bulged out but the impact was strong enough to bend the can on the seam of the bottom. It missed a firefighter by only feet.
As firefighters entered the house they crawled on hands and knees. Flames from the living room rolled out the door into the porch continuing to the eves of the house. Water was quickly put on the fire and the flames rolling out changed to steam as the fire was put out.
Another challenge for the firefighters came as they attempted to extinguish the fire in the attic. The house was found to have rolls of insulation with blown in insulation on top of that. As the ceiling was pulled down to get to the fire clouds of insulation covered the firefighters.
The fire was also found to have spread under the house. Firefighters had to crawl under the house to get to the last of the flames and embers.
As usual then came the clean up.
